The Beautiful Blues

Iris and May Night Salvia

Blue Montana

I just about made it for GBBD for June! But being only a day late is not all that bad, considering this is the first month I have made this year! Seems to be a theme going here, and it's BLUE. I do love blue/purple flowers and they are in abundance in my gardens this time of the year.

HUGE leaves of Japanese Anemone due to my special winter mix

For some reason the salvias are particularly strong and beautiful this year. Even my DH noticed and commented on them. The stems are so tall.

False Indigo

Creeping Turkish Veronica

A few daisies to break up all of the blue

Bright Blue Flax

While I lost a large number of new plants to winter kill, the older perennials really prospered. I'm wondering if it was the special winter mix I put on them last Fall (EKO Organic Compost, Earthgro Garden Soil, horticultural corn meal, Yum Yum Mix & Winterizer, and alfalfa pellets.) To that mixture I added bits of cotton bole and mushroom compost that I had left over. It certainly has been worth the effort, now that I see the results.

Hi Bev--thanks for the garden tour. Now I have a really good feel for what's blooming in CO! I'm flying out later this week to visit my niece in Colorado Springs. She swears it's less humid than Michigan! :) My niece isn't a gardener--any recommendations for nice places to see flowers? Apparently the water co. has a demonstration xeriscape garden?
~ Thanks! Monica

Thanks for visiting Monica! Your niece is correct...the humidity is MUCH less than Michigan. And be sure to go to the xeriscape garden, it is fantastic. Also check out Hillside Gardens on Prospect Avenue... you will love it. Have a great visit and let me know how things go.

Hi, I wandered over from the garden faerie. Your garden is lovely.
I remember a long time ago I read in some garden design magazine "You can never be too rich or have too much blue in your garden". I guess because blue accents other colors so well.

I want an iris the blue color of yours, and some of that pretty blue flax.

Beautiful blues! I love the look of the indigo. I've had a seed started plant for 3 years now... hoping it will bloom this year.
So glad to see you back on your blog! I have missed your posts. So sorry for the loss of your Dad, and the trial these past months have been.

The same flower as the flower which blooms in my garden was found in your blog.

Bev, Colorado was AWESOME! The Betty Ford Alpine Garden was a bit hard to find (tucked into an upscale condo community!), but nice, and the Denver Botanic Garden was incredible. Absolutely gorgeous! You live in a beautiful part of the country!

Those blues are awesome. I have mostly oranges, yellows, but I would love to have those beautiful blues. Your pics are so pretty. This is why I love flowers, They fill a spot in your soul that nothing else can. Okay, I realize that was a bit mushy but that is the way your flowers make me feel.
